What Is a Virtual Doula and How Can She Help You?

Updated: 4 days ago

What is a doula?

A doula is a professional trained in perinatal health who provides emotional, physical, and educational support through the pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum process. Their purpose is to help women feel safe and support them through a positive, empowering birth experience.

You can meet with a doula any time throughout the perinatal process (which spans from the beginning of pregnancy to about a year postpartum). Most clients contact doulas a few months before the baby is due. Doulas can help the pregnant person figure out their plan so they feel prepared emotionally and physically for the birthing process. And they can stay with you throughout the postpartum period while you get to know this new phase of life!

Does it work virtually?

Yes! Most doulas make themselves available for phone calls and messaging to answer questions whenever the soon-to-be parents have any.

While doulas are able to offer support physically at the birth, oftentimes it can be hard to find a doula who can be there in person and is also the right fit for your needs, especially in you live in a country that doesn’t speak your native language. In these cases, a virtual doula can fill in the gaps and support from afar.

How can it help me?

My approach is client led. Whatever you need, I will be there to hep. The services available at Cygnet Care include prenatal education and preparation lessons, postnatal support sessions, and lactation consultations.

I can help if you need assistance formulating a birth plan, or feeling prepared physically for labor, if you need some support recovering after delivery, or breastfeeding.
